The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and Southern University of Illinois Carbondale is partnering with Illinois Destination ImagiNation (ILDI) for the culminating tournament for the IDOT Engineering Academies.  Since September, IDOT volunteers have been working with students in Collinsville, Springfield, and Chicago area to inspire them to consider civil engineering careers through their interactive Engineering Academies.  The top students from each location have been invited to the showcase event on February 20th, as part of the National Engineering Week activities.
 
Ten teams of up to ten students each will vie for the “Fastest Thinkin’ in the Land of Lincoln” title as they try their hand with a series of Instant Challenges, with each one limited to 5 to 10 minutes for solution generating time!  Students will be challenged to devise engineering based solutions to various scenarios using only the materials supplied to them and to strategize as a  team, all under severe time constraints.
 
The main event will be the Destination ImagiNation eXtreme Challenge where the teams will have 60 minutes to design and create their solution, then take turns presenting to the Appraisal team and audience.  The day will be fast-paced, fun, and a great experience for all who dare to accept the Challenge!
